Doug first arrived in Guelph to attend the University of Guelph completing both a Bachelro of Commerce in Marketing Management and a Masters in Science in Marketing and Consumer Studies. After University, Doug refereed as an OHL, OHA, and OUA official for 15 years. In his third year of officiating at the Junior level, he started his mortgage business as well as teaching at Ryerson and the University of Guelph. After advising clients for a decade, he transitioned into a management and growth role.

In 2017, he co-founded a tech company (Finmo, acquired by Lendesk in 2020) that simplifies the mortgage process. Through their innovative solutions, Canadians now enjoy a smoother mortgage process when working with brokers. Doug is deeply connected to Guelph as an alumnus, professor, and long-time resident.

Formerly an on-ice official driven by his love for hockey and community, he continues his community involvement by actively contributing as part of the leadership committee for the Children's Foundation of Guelph and Wellington, supports the Gryphon's Give Program, and participates in many community events. Outside of work, you can find Doug creating memorable experiences for his daughters, or elevating his knowledge through Entrepreneurs Organization.
